What is a flyknit bag?
A flyknit bag is a bag whose main fabric is knitted to shape on a computerised flat-knitting machine, rather than cut from rolls of woven fabric. The machine knits each panel in its final outline, with colours, texture and logo built into the knit. The name borrows from knitted shoe uppers, which use the same family of technology.
How is a 3D knitted bag made?
- Your pattern and logo are programmed for the knitting machine.
- Yarns in the approved colours are loaded and the panels are knitted to shape.
- Panels are steamed and pressed to their final size.
- Linings and trims are cut; handles, zips and hardware are prepared.
- The bag is sewn, lined and finished, then inspected and packed.
How does a knit bag compare with canvas and PU bags?
| Knit (3D flyknit) | Canvas | PU / faux leather | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pattern & logo | Knitted into the fabric | Printed or embroidered on top | Printed, embossed or debossed |
| Feel | Soft, stretches and recovers | Stiff, then softens | Smooth, structured |
| Cutting waste | Low – panels knitted to shape | Higher – cut from rolls | Higher – cut from rolls |
| Weight | Light | Light to medium | Medium to heavy |
| Best for | Fashion totes, sport, beach, gift | Promotional and grocery totes | Structured handbags |
Is a knit bag strong enough for daily use?
Yes, when the construction suits the load. Stitch density, a lining, a reinforced base and suitable handles decide how much a bag carries and how well it keeps its shape. For heavy daily use – laptops, groceries – we specify a denser knit, a lining and stronger handles.
Frequently asked questions
Can a flyknit bag be washed?
Many can be hand washed or gently machine washed in a laundry bag; lined bags and bags with leather trims need gentler care. We confirm the care instructions for each model.
Are flyknit bags sustainable?
Knitting panels to shape creates less cutting waste than cutting woven fabric, and recycled polyester yarn is available on request. Ask us which documentation is available for the yarn you choose.
